The University of New Mexico Human Research Protections Program

The mission of The University of New Mexico (UNM) is to serve as New Mexico’s flagship institution of higher learning through demonstrated and growing excellence in teaching, research, patient care, and community service. As part of this, the UNM Human Resesarch Protections Program (HRPP) is committed to promoting the safety and protection of people participating in research by establishing and encouraging high ethical standards and facilitating communication across departments. The UNM Institutional Review Board (IRB) oversees the conduct of human research at or affiliated with UNM’s main campus (Albuquerque) and branch campuses (Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos, UNM West, and Valencia).

Components of the HRPP include but are not limited to the Office of the IRB (OIRB), the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Contract & Grant Accounting (CGA), Conflict of Interest Committee (COIC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Office of University Counsel (OUC) and the UNM Privacy Office. The HRPP works together to meet the University’s vision by providing support, guidance, and education to researchers and the community in order to facilitate ethical and scientifically sound research
